Functions

Responsibilities of the City Manager:

  • Acts as the chief administrative officer and direct supervisor of department heads (e.g., finance director, city engineer, chief of police, city recorder, public works director, justice court, golf course etc.)
  • Responsible for implementing all policy changes and directives of the mayor and the city council through regularly scheduled staff meetings with executive staff and department heads.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the city and its services, pursuant to the policies and procedures adopted by the City Council
  • Prepares plans and programs concerning the development, operation, and needs of the city and submitting such plans to the City Council to be approved and developed as policy
  • Sets performance standards and exercises administrative control to ensure the city government is functioning in the most efficient manner
