Town Marshals

Charles Wirbin retired January 1955. In March 1956, Royal Alvin Reynolds was employed as Marshal. In August 1960 Virgil Rich was hired as Town Marshal.

Virgil P. Rich

When North Salt Lake became a City in 1961, Virgil Rich became the first Chief of Police. He had been serving as the Town Marshall since 1960. Chief Virgil Rich retired in January 1971.

L. Val Wilson

In 1968, Val Wilson was appointed a North Salt Lake Police Officer. When Virgil Rich retired, Val was appointed Chief of Police in January 1971. He served in this position until his retirement in December 1998.

Duane Richins

Duane Richins was appointed Chief of Police in December 1998 and served in this position until his retirement in September 2002.

Steve Harder

Steve Harder had been with the North Salt Lake Police Department since July 1979 and was appointed Chief of Police in September 2002. He served in this position until his retirement in May 2010.

Craig Black, Chief of Police

Craig Black is our current Police Chief, appointed May 2010. Chief Black came to to us from West Valley City where he was the Assistant Chief of Police. He has been in law enforcement for over twenty years. He grew up and has lived most of his life as a resident of South Davis County and was a former resident of North Salt Lake.
