Code Enforcement

  • The City North Salt Lake's ordinance require all weeds to be cut and maintained at a height not exceeding six (6) inches. The Code Enforcement Officer of the City of North Salt Lake is responsible for the enforcement of the weed ordinance. When he receives a complaint, he makes an on-site visit to verify the violation. He then contacts the owner of the property by mail to inform him/her of the violation and instruct them to cut the weeds. A reasonable amount of time is given the property owner to do so. If the owner complies, the problem is resolved for now. However, weeds continue to grow and they may require two or three cuttings during the season. If the owner does not comply, the Code Enforcement Office will contract with a weed cutting contractor to cut the weeds. A bill for the weed cutting and administrative costs will then be sent to the property owner by certified mail. If the owner does not pay that bill, a copy of the costs along with certification that the property owner has been notified will be sent to the County Treasurer with a request to have the amount placed as a lien against the property.
